Knowing what your great stores do well to influence sales and then replicating this across an estate is one of the key management challenges of any retailer. Outside of store location and product there is always the operational element that can impact sales significantly.
In order to improve standards across the estate, retailers must start to recognise the behaviours and activities that the great store managers do regularly and what standards are achieved across various areas of the store. Once these are recognised they should be grouped into specific areas and weighted in terms of how they contribute to the success of the store.

All about targeting – a tip for better operational communication
Targeting is about the sender of the message taking responsibility for it. It’s very tempting, especially if you’re busy, to send a message to the widest distribution list possible and let the recipients figure out whether it applies to them or not.
There is a kind of excuse for this if the quality of your store information is so poor you have to let store managers decide which bit of mail applies to them, but it’s horribly time-wasting, especially as every manager in every store is forced to perform the same filtering exercise for every email or message you send out.
